National and Regional Consortia

EPOS has been designed to be inclusive at both geographical and disciplinary level and to reinforce the solid Earth science community in Europe and in every single country. However, to be visible at the European level, the community needs to be rooted on solid national grounds. EPOS offers the momentum for national communities to work towards more integration.

EPOS promotes the creation of comprehensive national and regional consortia as well as the organisation of collective actions to secure national funding. Moreover, the national solid Earth Research Infrastructures need to be included into the national roadmaps, which define national priorities following the ESFRI blueprint. Not only does this contribute to reinforce their visibility but it is also a recognition of the support of the national authorities.

Currently, the situation in European countries is diverse; whereas some national communities are already well organised (even regionally) and have succeeded in securing national support, others are less mature. EPOS fosters the exchange of good practices among the national and regional initiatives to develop and improve each national component of this European enterprise.
